Find Out Why Your AC is Blowing Hot Air
You rely on your AC to keep you cool in your home all summer long. But what happens when your air conditioning is blowing hot air only? It’s uncomfortable, annoying and frustrating.
The good news is that you don’t have to suffer too long in the heat. There are a handful of likely reasons that this is happening and most of them are fairly easily attended to.
We’ve put together a list of reasons that we often see.
Frozen Air Conditioner
No question, Texas is hot in the summertime, but resist the urge to drop the thermostat down ultra-low to compensate.
If you do turn it down, the result is a frozen air conditioner that blows hot air only.
This is because you are receiving air that is being blown off the motor, which is hot.
To fix this, you need to thaw out your system.
Turn it off and wait for a couple of hours. That should do the trick.
To keep this from happening again, keep your stays at 72°F always.
Condenser is Cluttered
Go outside and inspect the areas around your condenser. If there are tree branches, shrubs or bushes in the way, they can block the airflow.
Get in the habit of trimming these away regularly to promote good air flow.
Do You Have a Dirty Air Filter?
If you aren’t changing your air filter every month, now is the time to start. A dirty air filter can block air from flowing.
It also makes your system work much harder than it has to. This causes wear and tear and jacks your energy bills up.
If you want to save money by prolonging your unit’s life and making it run more efficiently, change your filter every month.
Blown Breaker Switch
Your AC has a breaker switch to protect you from electrical fire hazard.
If there is a power surge, the breaker will turn off.
Check to see that it is in the right position.
If this problem keeps happening, it could be a sign of more serious malfunction with your system.

Leaking Coolant
In order for cool air to keep flowing, you need to have the right levels of refrigerant in your system.
If your line is damaged, it will leak out. You need more fluid, and you need to have your lines inspected.
