Can’t Find Your Heating System Vents?

nsplash

If you want to be thoroughly prepared when it’s time for your heater’s regular maintenance, you need to be aware of even the most basic aspects.

Most people only worry about their system when it’s breaking down or stuttering, but being more aware of the system can help you identify problems faster when they occur.

Which Heating Distribution System do You Have?

It can be easy to get the right solutions for your system if you know which one you have. Some of the most common ones include:

nsplash
  • Furnace: This forced-air system is the most commonly used in the U.S. Furnaces push air from a starting point out through the duct system, efficiently heating every room in the home.
  • Ductless Mini-split A/Cs: This system lets you have more accurate control over different rooms in the home. You can optimize your spending using this system to pick and choose where the heating energy is spent.
  • Boiler: By sending hot water or steam through the vents in your home, this radiator distribution system spreads the heat throughout the home. These systems can be more expensive to install and run, but they do benefit from zoned heating.

By staying well-informed on your unit, you’ll be able to identify and resolve problems sooner!

Don’t Close Vents in Rooms!

nsplashSome people believe the best way to reduce the amount of energy they’re spending is to close the vents to a room they barely use.

The way the heating works is this: one vent is the supply vent, and the other is the return vent. If you close a vent (the only one that can be closed is the supply vent) the return vent will still try to pull up air.

It will end up pulling air from windows or doors, leading to the same if not more energy being spent. The best way to achieve better distribution efficiency would be to use a system like a mini-split in order to control the air flow in individual rooms.

Save Money on Your Heating Bill

nsplashEven minor changes can have major impacts on your energy spending. Have a pro tech conduct a tune-up right before winter so your system is in top shape.

You can also have an energy audit done, turn the thermostat down when you’re asleep or not at home, or even turn your ceiling fan in reverse.

These are all things you can do at home to improve your heating efficiency while also reducing the amount you have to pay on a monthly basis.

Stay Warm in Wintertime!

Winter is a beautiful time of year; there’s time off from work to enjoy your home, the family is in from out of town, and it’s the perfect time to stay in and enjoy the views from the comfort of your home.

Take the time to make sure your heater is running perfectly, and you’ll be able to enjoy this most wonderful time undisturbed. Make sure you share this article with your friends so they can keep their home as comfortable as yours!
